Today my computer disappointed me: I was happily working in InDesign while suddenly it crashed. I restarted it - and couldn’t use my keyboard. Not one key of it. I plugged in an external keyboard and it was working just fine; I guess it’s a hardware problem. I still have my warranty, so it’s no financial issue - it’s just kind of problematic that I have to go without my computer for at least two weeks in the middle of my master’s thesis. But I’m glad that the university has excellent computers, too, which I can use day and night (I’m typing this on one at this moment). However, I lost three hours of some of my most productive afternoon hours…I haven’t considered computer problems while scheduling my last days of working on Magazine No. 1.
And today I started with designing the newspaper spreads! It’s actually more time-consuming than I thought; not so much the designing itself - but finding the most interesting stories with the right length takes a lot of time. Today I designed three spreads out of twelve, but three double pages will contain the list of every piece of content in the whole magazine with all the links: For this, no research is necessary; only detailed design work.
What I haven’t done so far is the cover (and for the back). I have a sketchy idea of it, but not sure if it’s working. (I’m a little bit nervous regarding this.) The plan now is to finish this and the newspaper spreads until Saturday afternoon and then get started with the detail work. Long weekend ahead.
