A lot of good things happened. I just finished the print version of my Google Search history (which digital version I blogged about almost a year ago). I’m still happy about how it turned out. Not super happy. But happy. And it was nice to indulge in print design again, after such a long time. In the end, I even did some kerning. Meaning, I moved individual letters. WOAH. A PDF can be found here!
Then, I had a good chat with Brian about my goals for the next months. I want to understand NPR as an organization far better; I want to get better at analyzing data; I want to continue writing blog post that help the data vis and/or data journalism community and bring them forward. And I want to learn how to tell stories.
Regarding story telling: I asked the other fellows about what I should read, and Pietro came around with three great-seeming books about storytelling. And now we have a mini-bookclub! Meaning, we’ll read the book until Thursday (we start with the shortest book) and then talk about it. It’s a deadline! Boy I love deadlines. They make me DO things.

Language is an important tool for disagreement. Eg: Many teenagers use swear words or slang to sound different than their parents. But teenagers don’t want to CHANGE their parents. If you want to change a group, you need to talk their language…otherwise they won’t listen to you. Then again, if you speak the group’s language, it will often seem like you agree with them – from the outside.
Aristotle is still actually important for screenwriters.

What can be the “physical” outcome of my goals?
