Today I did a lot of relaxation. I skyped with R and J (and learned about VR). And tonight I went to a Mexico-themed party by M (and learned even more about VR). I also skimmed through Nathan Yau’s complete “Visualize this” and found it an good introduction to data visualisation, but way to basic for me.
And I had my first real culture shock “America what the heck” moment. It started harmless. I went to Target, a giant supermarket here, in a quest to drawing material. They had two aisles full of that, and I found some nice markers in nice colors and some good paper. And then I decided to also search for wooden color pencils. Turns out, there are not color pencils at Target. I couldn’t find them. If you’re a mother a Target, you can’t buy color pencils for your kid. I find that….astonishing. Color pencils are far more practical than plastic markers with their lids that get lost all the time. Markers do have brighter colors. But….not one package of color pencils? Really? Hm.
