It’s Friday! It’s Friday before the weekend before Memorial Day (that’s on Monday). Today I continued my research into our bigger Visuals story; read some paper, tried to get some numbers into R from a national institution which makes it extra hard to get data (without knowing that they make it extra hard).

And then I left the office early: Around 2pm already. Why? Because it was a beautiful day and S invited me to join him and a crew of NPRlers to drive to the Shenandoah National Park. That was the first time I was in a car in DC and surroundings! That was pretty cool. And it took us a long time to get there, because …traffic.

But it is worth it. We are in a nice cabin here (no showers, though. And no electricity. And no cell phone reception.) and we played a neat game in which you need to give clues and your team needs to guess words you meant. I learned a lot about the English language.

Also, it’s calm. One can see a lot of stars in the night. And a lot of trees during the day. I like it.

Learnings?

The Pentagon doesn’t look so pentagonal if you stand in front of it.

The Route 66 is very boring around DC and Arlington. Or: Being on the route 66 doesn’t mean you suddenly have lots of freedom in your nose; especially if you’re in the DC area.

School buses sometimes stop in front of every single house in the US.

Questions?

Will it be super gross to live here for two nights without a shower? Or only ok-ish gross?
