Vancouver! I’m in Vancouver! Vancouver is awesome! I have a theory about that, stay tuned.
Today I stood up at 5am and then felt weirdly home while being at an airport for the first time again since…April? I felt like I’m back in my natural habitat. I flew from Baltimore to Denver and from Denver to Vancouver, for the Information+ conference that will happen here during the following three days.
And boy is it nice to be here! First: CANADA yeah: CAD! 1 dollar coins! 2 dollar coins! Tim Horton’s! Cob’s Bread! NoName! President’s choice! Also: Vancouver YEAH: This city has a beach (so much closer than expected) and mountains (also so much closer than expected); what else do you want. The weather is great: Sunny. Cool-ish. Not as warm and not as humid as in DC. Everything is awesome.
Ok, and I have a theory about the awesomeness of this city: It’s the sun light. My theory goes like that: The light in Vancouver and Berlin is warmer and less white and softer than the light in DC and Madrid and Beijing. Vancouver has the light I’m used to. And the light is depending of the latitude. Beijing and DC and Madrid have cold, white, hard, merciless sun light that wants to kill you, because it’s closer in the south than Berlin or Vancouver. Summers feel different depending on the light. Buildings feels different. Dirt on the street feels different. I feel different. That’s my theory.
Also, I had the possibly best green tea in a sushi restaurant ever. I like Vancouver.

Learnings?
The Vancouver Metro area won’t have enough water left during the next years thanks to climate change.
Vancouver is north from Berlin. (Maybe I should make a game: “Which city is more north?” Hm, I think that already exists.)
Vancouver likes bicyclists (separated bike ways!)
