Today was a really sad day. The Brexit results came in. And I was frustrated and sad. Not so much because the UK won’t be part of the EU anymore: I think nobody really will care so much. Switzerland is not part of the EU and nobody makes a big deal out of that. I was mostly upset because of:
1) …the reasons that 50% of the voters voted Leave. The reasons might be different: To set a signal, racism, or manipulation through the media and campaigns. But all of them are very unfortunate; and that 50% of the voters had these reasons make me sad.
2) …that these Leave voters didn’t get what they were promised. I’m talking about the backtracking of the Leave campaign leaders: “Yeeeeeah, we promised that, but no, it actually won’t happen.” People believed that voting Leave would lead to a better future. And now they need to see, so quickly, that they voted for nothing.
….also, I worked a lot on my bigger NPR story, talked with David about my fellowship and published a new Data Vis MeetUp at the 5th of July.

Cartograms might be not THE solution to everything.
News stories can make me very sad and very frustrated.
It’s hard to see that something is wrong when you don’t have any comparison.
Questions?
If you would repeat that referendum, how many people would vote Leave now?
