Portland, day 5! And the first day of SRCCON, the conference I’m actually here for. What a day! I participated sessions about
- teaching reporters about data stuff- working remotely- onboarding and offboarding in newsrooms - being terrible at stuff on work- art - lightning talks!
All awesome. And I got a lot of new thoughts. Also, it was great to see two of my co-workers again and lots of the alumni fellows. And to get to know new people. And to draw with them on lots of post-its. That was definitely a highlight today.
During the day I felt a little bit tired and exhausted…it IS kind of exhausting to be constantly in rooms where you constantly have background noise, because other people are talking in other groups at other desks. SRCCON is all about participation and talking and being active, and it definitely felt great to participate so much – but I also missed my totally passive listening-to-a-keynote experience and enjoyed the lightning talks because of that.

In digital / net art, the canvas (screen, computer, etc.) is provided by the audience and the art work by the artist. However, in paintings, sculptures etc. the canvas and artwork are completely dependent from each other and often the same.
