An overlay of all basemaps that Datawrapper offers, created by my coworker Gregor. I find it fascinating to look at. Here are some details.
I was sick for a week and a day or two, which felt like that: 🤒😴😩. It didn’t hinder us from getting the Style Guide Color Palette Blog Post™ out, though, finally! I had already finished working on it 1.5 weeks ago (incl. feature image and social media text); and after my coworker Rose had a look at grammar and spelling, all we had to do was hit the big red “Publish” button last Wednesday. (I also published a Weekly Chart last Thursday.)
Which means I could set this task that I had created in July 2020 to “completed”:

And it felt very good. It also felt great to share it on Twitter and to get so much love for such a niche topic! (Because yes, niche it is.)
It was also SO much fun to work at. It’s the blog post I’ve worked the longest one and the one I interviewed most people on, and collecting together all these opinions and experiences was a great experience.
And today I came back to work after being sick…and had a to do list on which the only task was “Write. The. Book.” (besides a few smaller tasks like writing emails, of course – they’re always there). So in the next few weeks I’ll spent a lot of time back in the Google Doc. Today I restructured and extended the first part, and I weaved some more blog posts I’ve written about colors into the book content and the current structure. I think a lot about the structure, about “Should this come first because it’s essential, although it might be boring for some?” and “How will people use the book; where will they expect this piece of information to show up?” I don’t have great answers to these questions (yet), but I’m trying – and I’m looking forward to see my ideas are any good once I let my book beta-read.
