Did I mention that today was a productive day? That’s why: Yesterday night I started with a bad draft for the online games spread - the actual last spread of the main part that still needed to be done. And I didn’t like it (except the little graphic…the research phase with calculating all the rates and looking for good image material took me 2 or 3 hours yesterday. Too much for my taste). But this morning, after successfully organising other areas of my life (like my room), I changed the whole look and layout of the online games spread in only one hour. Good start in the day! I would even consider it as one of my best spreads in the magazine. Maybe I should consider designing drafts more often in the night so that I can change them in the morning afterwards?

The other nice thing that happened today were the intro pages that comes after the cover of the main part. I did a flow chart - because I like them, I’ve never done them before and they’re working nicely as a table of content. Actually I wanted to use the left part of the page as the cover and the right page as the left page of the following spread. On the right side of this spread, the page about YouTube were supposed to follow. Now, the YouTube page is gone (you maybe remember it…I video screened me designing it). That’s a good thing; I’ve never liked it that much. It’s always good to have more pages designed than you actually need for a magazine, so that you can throw away the worst ones.

The cover itself need still refinement. I did some versions that looked trashy, some that looked 70s-guide-like, and some that looked boring. The cover needs to suit the intro pages on the next spread and the newspaper article world on the left page of the same spread. Soo….well. The big version is my favourite so far, and since this is a low priority in the remaining four days, I’ll go with this one, maybe. Let’s see.
