Today was my first day at NPR. That happened: I watched an eagle doing nothing and being very productive while doing so. I on the other hand was busy, and…..also productive? At least that’s what I like to think. The eagle was supposed to hatch today, and because people like animals, there was an eagle cam which got streamed to a big TV in the Visuals Team part of NPR.

That happened, too: My new and awesome boss Brian gave me a tour though the building, introduced me to people and oranised a laptop for me. I tried to follow this tutorial to set it up, but my virtualenvwrapper didn’t work until I followed this advice. I also prepared a short presentation for tomorrow, to introduce myself to the team. Then I continued my quest “finding the best way from home to work” and found myself pretty successful with using the green and red line.

Learnings?

When people sell “Mediterranean Food”, they sell a combination of lebanese and greek food.

It’s harder to get Reese’s white peanut butter cups in Washington DC than it is in Berlin.

Setting up a new SSH key for Github is a copy&paste journey which is hard to understand, but super easy to follow. I hate that it’s not required that you understand it, quite the opposite: DON’T understand it if you want to spend less time and want to come to the same result. Maybe I should set myself a challenge to understand EVERYTHING for a few days. Everything I wonder, I should just ask a person or Google.

The Atom editor comes with pretty awesome plugins.

Questions?

Should I buy a Wacom Intuos Pro for my work at NPR?

Again, should I stay in Columbia Heights or move? What’s more important - location or beauty of a flat?
