International Journalism Festival, Perugia, day 6! Another half-day-tour which turned into a full-day-tour. Not as amazing as yesterday, but eh. We visited a waterfall (largest in Europe!) and an old Roman village that people have been digging out.

After coming back to Perugia, I saw another talk (”Will investigative journalism save the world? (And journalism?)” - as in so many panels, they didn’t answer the question. Still interesting.) (The more I learn about Investigative Journalism the more of a fan I become.) and then had my last Perugia pizza slice with a view over Umbria, while having great conversations with Jacqui and Stefan and Stijn. To then continue these conversations first in a bar and then, by then including Zara, in “Rosetta”, which turned out to be the best restaurant in Perugia I’ve tried so far. Rosemary ice cream, yummy.

Learnings?

On my quest of understanding goals in Journalism, I should look into the Theory of Change and KPI metrics. Also, more Jonathan Stray. (Thanks, Stijn!)

I should have some “one output piece a week” challenge, to not fall into the trap of not DOING anything because I don’t have a goal yet.

Questions?

Every field can be improved, as Polygraph demonstrates. What is a data vis that I could do about a field that a) interests me and b) could be improved? In which ways? I should do a list.
