Today was a calm, tired day. I made my email inbox look a lot less full and wrote some emails, watched my boss Brian talking about news breaking stories for LOOK AT THIS and had an excellent lasagne for lunch (I didn’t know lasagne CAN be excellent).

Mostly I took care of my blogpost aka THE EXPERIMENT. I discovered Plotly (and was very impressed) and learned how to use ggvis, Bokeh and Seaborn. Tomorrow, maybe, I’ll learn about Vega and then hopefully finish writing the first and second part on the weekend.

Learnings?

When friends care about me, they want information about my current state. But they want that this information comes with a connection; often a 1 to 1 conversation. Meaning, this blog doesn’t get read by my friends and family so much because I speak to the public, not to them. I give them information, but information is almost useless for them without a relationship.

Tumblr doesn’t work with my home wifi. It takes ages to upload a photo. It’s pretty annoying.

When the NYT Graphics desk works on a story, they try very hard to make me understand the world better. When the NPR Visuals team works on a story, their focus is on people and empathy-building.
